Karl Meyer's parents were friends with Mildred Fish during her days at the University of Wisconsin. They would later visit the Harnacks in Berlin in the early 1930s. Karl is married to Shareen Blair Brysac, author of "Resisting Hitler." Karl's family connections brought Mildred's story to Shareen's attention.
