When Dennis McClung bought a house in Mesa, Arizona, a few years ago, he was determined to grow his own food despite the unforgiving climate. It only took a few months before he was farming tilapia, harvesting hen eggs and producing all his family’s vegetables—all out of a totally transformed backyard pool. It’s a model of how to live sustainably in the desert, complete with African pygmy goats!
