(classical music) - I'm a normal and you are a synesthete.
(chuckles) So since I am a normal, I need you to walk me through your 3D world, where months fly ahead of you and the days of the week.
- That's awfully dramatic but yeah.
- For example, my favorite month is October.
It's my favorite month 'cause it's when my birthday is.
- Naturally.
- And so when I think of October, I think of a lot of fall colors and Halloween.
I feel like those are my associations but I think when you hear October.
- It's totally different.
So my October is kind of dark blue almost purplish, as far as where it is.
Where would it be for you?
- Nowhere.
It's just sort of is.
- Really?
Like, not even in a calendar?
- It has no locations, no spatial location.
It's just when my birthday is.
- So if I were gonna give you a roadmap for where where to go, then we are sort of here in April.
At the beginning of April, yeah.
So we would sort of walk that way.
- That way.
- Yeah.
- Okay.
- And as we walk, then the months that we pass will sort of get bigger and kind of go by us just like we're driving in a car.
- So then October comes zooming up.
Now my birthday is the 10th.
Let's say it's a Saturday 'cause that's a better day to have a party.
Where is Saturday?
- I sort of divide up the month into four different sections for the weeks.
Then I would just generally think that the 10th would be sort of around here, in general.
Saturday for me is kind of a dusty rose color.
Then I might envision it with the 10, like at the top of Saturday.
So then I could just remember 10 plus dusty rose equals Laura's birthday - I think rose is my birthday stone.
- Hey!
- So all the stars are lining for the best birthday ever.
- Good stuff.
- Pretty much.
(jazz music) - It's very matrix sometimes.
- My world is so boring.
- Oh, no.
It's not.
- I wanna be synesthetic.
