How to Make Lumpia: Filipino Egg Rolls

MYA (VOICEOVER): "Full Time Kid" with Mya.

[giggles] Thanksgiving is a time when family and friends come together to be thankful.

I'm very thankful for lumpia.

Lumpia is a traditional Filipino egg roll.

I eat it at almost every family party.

So today on "Full Time Kid," I'm gonna show you how you can make it too.

You will need two pounds of ground beef, one medium onion-- finely chopped, one carrot-- grated, 1/4 cup soy sauce, two and a half teaspoons of black pepper, one and half tablespoons of garlic powder, two tablespoons of salt, one 16 ounce package of spring roll wrappers, and one and a half quarts oil for frying.

In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix thoroughly.

Dive in and use your hands.

Now we're ready to wrap the lumpia.

Take about two tablespoons of the mixture and place it in a line near the bottom.

Take the bottom edge and fold it over tightly.

Take the sides and fold it over tightly.

Roll it to the top.

Moisten the last edge of the wrapper to seal it.

Repeat until all of the mixture is gone.

This is gonna take a lot of work.

Make sure you have an adult to help you with this one.

Heat the oil in a deep fryer or heavy skillet to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Fry three or four lumpia at a time about three or four minutes, turning once.

Lumpia are cooked through when they float and the wrapper is golden brown.

I know you're hungry, but be sure to let it cool before you dive in.

Have your sweet and sour sauce ready, and share the goodness with all of your friends and family.
