Clip: 10/03/2013 | 7m 44s

Alice McDermott tells the story of an ordinary woman named Marie from childhood to death in her new novel, "Someone." The narrative centers on a woman who is shy, plain, unremarkable on the surface, but has a very active internal life. Jeffrey Brown talks to McDermott about her inspirations for the character from her own life and in the creative process writing the novel.
