The Fletcher Allen Hospital in Vermont has had great success with "Working Bridges" income advanced loans, which are used for everything from college tuition to car repair. The loans come with an interest rate above those available for those with good credit, but far below the rates of payday lenders. The loans to staff have a low default rate and 85% of participation in a follow-up savings plan.
