Bisi Alimi was the first person to come out as gay on national television in Nigeria. In 2004 he appeared on the popular television show, New Dawn. Bisi wanted to challenge the misconception that there where no gay people in Nigeria. After his television appearance Bisi was violently attacked. He soon made his way to the United Kingdom seeking asylum.
