When Republicans rallied around an austere budget proposed by Representative Paul Ryan, President Obama took to a speech to condemn the plan. What he didn't realize, his aides say, was that Paul Ryan was sitting in the front row listening to the speech. When it was over, Ryan made a quick exit. He felt the president had poisoned the well.
