One State Board of Education member was elected after mailing in her request to be removed from the ballot a week late and to the wrong agency. Another defeated a widely endorsed incumbent. She had never attended a school board meeting nor had any public involvement in educational issues. What is it about the democratic process that elects these sorts of members to an important state body.
