George Walker, Composer

Clip | 11m 6s

George Walker was the first black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize in Music. As Walker celebrated his 90th birthday in 2012, the NJ Symphony Orchestra premiered his latest work, Sinfonia No. 4 "Strands."  A celebrated concert pianist when young, Walker broke racial barriers in the conservative world of classical music. Conductors Jacques Lacombe and Jed Gaylin reflect on Walker's noted career.
