Episode: "Turtle" by Kay Ryan

Born in California in 1945, Kay Ryan's unique brand of tightly compressed brilliance has earned her the status of one of the great living American poets and led to her appointment as U.S. Poet Laureate in 2008. Her poem "Turtle" approaches the turtle and its cumbersome body many times over, through many metaphors and observations, expressing impatience and dismay and a kind of pity for the animal.
