Joseph Millar was raised in western Pennsylvania, got his M.A. degree in 1970 at Johns Hopkins University, and then moved to San Francisco. He received an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and then returned east in 1997 where he founded the Brooklyn Arts Press. "American Wedding" captures Millar's sense of humbleness in the face of describing life's enormous emotions, destinies, and mysteries.
