Galway Kinnell was born and raised in Rhode Island, and graduated from Princeton University in 1948. After traveling the world, he returned to the United States to join the civil rights movement and protested against the U.S. war in Vietnam. His poem "After Making Love We Hear Footsteps" shows the power of love and spirituality flowing through the small moments and interactions of everyday life.
