About the Show
Comets have fascinated, even terrified us for thousands of years. For scientists though, comets are a great opportunity. In 2013 a particularly massive chunk of ice and rock traveled our way, an object that would fascinate billions and create the space show of the century.
Comet ISON was just beyond the orbit of Jupiter. As it raced past us toward the sun it would develop a tail that lit up the skies brighter than a full moon. Then the comet would slingshot around the back of the sun and emerge brighter than ever, treating the entire northern hemisphere to an unforgettable sight. In this show, scientists all over the world followed a once-in-a-lifetime event and shot breathtaking images, spewing its essence into the void.
